Could a 1.12 mod get mod of the week?

I am planning out mod ideas for 1.12, and tinkering around a bit. However, I was thinking, theoretically, is it possible for the project to get featured on MOTW, since it's for an older version of the game? Or are only mods for current versions picked out?
