How do I make a custom book item which works exactly like the Vanilla Book?

I want to have a modded book item with a different texture and made from different materials to those of the vanilla Books, but I want them to work exactly like vanilla Books (be enchantable with anything, be combinable with each other and, more importantly, be combinable with any gear in an anvil to apply the enchantments to the gear). Another difficult part is making the GUI for writing in the book and having the item store and display it, and be placeable in Lecterns.
