Switching between vanilla and modded textures on items.

Hi! So I wanted to make some custom enchants I have in a mod change the texture of an enchanted book to one I made. Is there any way to do this, but still have it behave as an enchanted book? If not, is there some way to make a new item that behaves like one? (Think the Quark ancient tomes). Any help is appreciated!
