Adding EMC values to items

Ok I wanna make clear that I searched all over posts and forums and found nothing useful. The closest thing to an actual answer was using NBT tags but it was very vague and I didn't understood, so if someone could explain it better, I would appreciate. I just want to add EMC values (thing from Project E) to items and blocks in my mod.
