I have tried making rideable flying mobs before and the thing is that when I ride the flying entity I cannot make it go up or down. How do I do this?

I have tried making rideable flying mobs before and the thing is that when I ride the flying entity I cannot make it go up or down. How do I do this?
make 2 custom key bindings and override the Y of the motion vector of the entity the player is riding when the keys are being pressed
