Difficulties with MCreator 1.7.8

For some reason, the newer versions of MCreator are being really hard to use & at various times, its even annoying. For instance, if I wanted to make a new armour texture. I wouldn't be able to because of the "_layer_1.png" thingy & it won't let me create the armour at all because of it. And also when I want to import a texture or model from a USB or something, it won't let me for some reason. If anyone has any solutions to these, please help me.
