How can I destroy items by damage?

How can I destroy items by damage?

I try to make an item that loses durability with every click on a block, but it doesn't break if it has no durability anymore. 

I have these settings:

-Stack size: 1

-Max item usage duration: 5

-Type of tool: 0

-Item damage count: 5

Creating the item as a Tool…

Creating the item as a Tool works out nicely.  But don't create an Item and then choose Type of tool (1 - not tool, 1.5 sword, 2> tool) with a value of 2.  It's not the same and will not take damage when used.  Just in case anyone else runs into this. :-)

I am from Russia so it will be difficult for me to explain. You need to go into the procedures and select <Deal the provided item damage of amount> and select a value.
