Is there a way to add advancements to the game?

So i have trouble with making my mod thingy, and i have one problem and that is how do i make advancements? There is only the achievement system and making it is pointless. I did however see that some mods have advancements.

You can make advancements in the achievements area by using the "parent achievement" stuff.
