Creating Custom Hat

I have been attempting to create a custom 3D modeled hat. However, when I attempt to run the client, my hat shows up near the neck of my character, only renders in the textures for the bottom portion, and leaves a string of textures outside the model as well.

The hat was created in Blockbench, exported as a Java file, imported to MCreator as a Java 3D model through the resources tab. It was then used as the model in the "armor, helmet" slot on a set of armor.

The texture was created using the UV mapping feature of Blockbench, before being exported as a PNG file. Two copies were made and had layer_1 and layer_2 added to them.

My Attempted Fixes

Noticed textures looked weird, changed the size of the layer images from 64x64 to 64x32 - didn't work

Any help is appreciated as I am very new to this scene. Thank you!
