How can I execute a command?

Hello everyone!

I am doing a mod with an item (a Warhammer) which must execute the command "/function Warhammer" (name of a function a created which damage mobs around the impact of the Warhammer) but how can I execute the command ?

Hold the Item and open the Chat( T )and type /function Warhammer.
