Custom biomes are too big

Whenever I try to make a custom biome, it always takes up much more space than vanilla biomes do. I don't like it, especially since most of my biomes are supposed to be sub-biomes.

Setting the weight to a smaller value doesn't seem to be working, I don't want them to be rarer, just the same size as other biomes.
