How to make paintable mob leashes (like dogs have)

I want to create a mod that adds many new pets, and I really need this feature.

Make a duplicate of the mob…

Make a duplicate of the mob with the colored collar, and make a procedure where when right clicked with this dye, it will consume the dye (if in survival), and despawn the original mob, replacing it with the new mob.  

You have to repeat this with every color you want available.
