How do I make a block that grows crops faster?

I'm trying to make a bootleg Better Farmland mod for 1.16.5 (For myself, obviously, [I'm not a thief I'm just lazy lmao]) and I tried increasing the growth rate of crops by decreasing the tick rate down all the way to 1, but I'm not getting nearly as good of a result as the actual mod. What am I doing wrong?
