Mark a side of a block output only for power?

From my understanding all blocks using the power system accept power in on all sides by default. How can I make it so the block can still produce power and store power, but not accept power from other sources? As of now I have simple coal generator that works fine but it also accepts power from other sources so when it is placed next to a battery it will both fill and drain from the battery.
