Block Detection

Hi.
I'm making a minecraft meteor mod, and i need some help.
Basically, when you type the command, in the sky will spawn 3x3x3 cube that will slowly, block by block, fall down.
And i don't know how to make block detection, so block won't dig into the ground.
Please help.
