When you create a texture in block bench, or import one to blockbench, make sure once your block is fully textured, that you recreate the texture to match the blocks mapping and not your own. Select all cubes in blockbench and click "create texture," this will create a new texture that corresponds to the blocks mapping using the already existing texture.

Also make sure you import the block texture to mcreator and set it as the mapping for the block you use. MCreator uses the blocks mapping as the texture instead of the block texture you choose within the block element. So if you make a block that has many different texture variants, you'll need to add additional mappings to the model in mcreator.
