Foliage color not affecting spruce leaves?

Hi everyone! I have run out of idea's to get the spruce leaves to change.  I'm making a biome and just want to use the default trees not a new structure tree.

Oak leaves work fine and I've tried changing the tree type. Does it need to be a custom tree to work or do i have to make a colormap somehow?

Is there a way to get the color to work?

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm pretty sure spruce leaves just have a higher base color that makes them more difficult to overide. It'd probably be easier to just make a custom leaf block than it would be to try to override the vanilla colormaps.

You could also make your custom leaf block drop regular spruce leaves when mined, and replace spruce leaves with your custom leaves when placed inside the biome, if you really need it to be spruce leaves for some reason.
