Help creating a tree using feature element (not structure, feature exactly)

Hi, i want to know a way to create trees using the feature element i already know this can be made with the structure element but i want it to be more versatile, and there is another reason a small problem i have got is that since saplings are structures.

they DESTROY any other block on the path, and i want the trees to limit to the height of where they are placed, not like structures where there are 2 ways make it just doesn't generate, or destroy anything on his path (even for a tree, i have to discard it due to destroying bedrock) so , if there is a way for this, i will be gratefull for knowing it the place where im just stuck, is that i can't generate the leaves, only the trunk, and the unique way would be using the mushroom feature, but that makes it look like, well mushrooms.

into other problems are also so that i can make it to be have more variety of trees,
other would be that structures are limited in the chunks, so i can't really make forest

if you don't mind, you can make the sapling randomize the tree variant it grows into and then detect if there is something that's obstructing the trunk from growing(i don't recommend all the leaves showing up all the time). also if you don't know there is this thing called structure void, which is obtained from commands, and when generated from a structure, it prevents other blocks at the area of the structure from being replaced and gets removed.
