How do I make it so entities spawn mid-air?

I'm trying to make a decorative entity that spawns mid-air, but I'm not sure how to make it spawn that way (or if it can even spawn that way.) I am wondering how to make it that way? Help appreciated!

i think you should make procedure for "natural entity spawning condition" which will check if block at x y z = air then return true
