What is The "Server Player" Entity For?

I have made all of my procedures and effects that affect the "player" entity also affect the "server player" entity, and I am sometimes getting crashes, and often lots of lag, due to something related to the "server player" entity.

As such, I am wondering if the "server player" entity should not be used, at least for what I am trying to do.
