Movement ideas for a custom stance?

I'm working on a mod that temporarily gives you abilites and effects when you collect enough xp (think mana but it doesn't auto regen) but i noticed the movement feels really clunky.

I wanted to add some sort of elytra flight but that doesn't seeeeeem to be possible without replacing the player's armor, so is there any way to teleport the player in the direction they're facing? 

I couldn't find this feature or figure out how to make it so thanks for the help
