throwable item not working

I made a coconut item, and made it throw a coconut projectile, which when it hits a block, it splits into two coconut halves, and when i try to throw the coconut, it does the throwing animation, but it doesn't use the item or launch a projectile

when i tried using a procedure instead, whenever i threw it once blocks would become unbreakable, and i was immortal (even to slash kill) and it would only stop after rebooting
