Problems with armor

While deciding to make a private mod for myself and my friends, I wanted to make armor that overtakes as a skin like in the crafting dead mod. However when I tried to do that, this happens.

It makes the armor look like a layer above the skin, as normal. I wanted to fix this, however I am new to this type of modding and I somewhat have no idea what im doing. Does someone more experienced then me know what to do?
