[Tutorial] Easy Color Coding Minecraft Item Labels
Sun, 08/18/2024 - 12:22 (edited)

If anyone ever wanted to know how to easily make their modded element (item, weapon, etc) have a different color as it's label, then this will explain how to do this extremely quickly without actually going strait into the code to do it.

They're many colors available that I know, and I'll share all of them including how to make them work. The easiest way to make a color coded label is to put the section sign, which looks like this: §. To enter the section sign, press Alt + 2 + 1, all at once. If you put that sign + appropriate letter/number in front of the word you want to color, then it will appear colored in-game.

Here is the table of colors for use. All of the codes must be used like this, for example: §7Bunny §7Cannon, not §7 Bunny §7 Cannon, for a gray label. It does not have to be every word you want to color (Or letter if that's what you're doing), but sometimes doing that is helpful since you might not be able to keep track of them very easily. If you wish you can put it this way, for example: §bSpectre Staff, for an aqua colored label. If you want the "spectre" to be red but have the "staff" as normal, you can put "r" in front of it, since that reverts the label to default.

Letter/Number  Color Output
Must write §a Green
Must write §b Aqua
Must write §c Red
Must write §d Pink
Must write §e Yellow
Must write §f White (Mcreator Default)
Must write §9 Blue
Must write §1 Blue (Dark)
Must write §2 Green (Dark)
Must write §3 Aqua (Dark)
Must write §4  Red (Dark)
Must write §6  Gold
Must write §7 Gray (Standard Minecraft Color for most items until recent versions when a lot of things turned green)
Must write §8  Gray (Dark)
Must write §0  Black

For more info refer to this on the Minecraft wiki: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Formatting_codes

This is a table of formatting codes. They use the same section sign, but they can be used to make a word italic, bold, obfuscated, underlined, or striked through. (Also can be used to reset to original form)

Here is a table of formatting codes.

Letter/Number Format Output
§k Obfuscated (unreadable)
§l Bold
§o Italic (slanted writing)
§n Underline
§m Strikethrough
§r Reset

There you are, easy way to make an item label a different color. You can also use this for the "special information" area of an item/other, and it will work the same way. You can also do this for blocks, entity labels, and some others. See the formatting codes article on the Minecraft wiki to learn more about more advanced color codes, such as in between colors.

If you have any issues, comment below describing your issue. If you find this unclear, then just ask me to better clarify the given information. Hope you find this tutorial helpful ;)

Thanks for the reminder for what codes go to which formats, going onto the wiki can be annoying.

Commands have different JSON formatting which is a lot more complicated, so these won't work

Don't know if this is still active, but I just wanted to say thanks for posting this, and by the way it seems that the section sign is (alt + 6) on most macbooks
