Topic category: Help with MCreator software
Hello, my PC has been acting weird recently and I have a fairly big mod and I don't want to lose all my progress on it. Is it possible to change the MCreator directory so I can have my mod workspaces and MCreator on a flashdrive and also it would be able to save there? Thanks :)
Yes, you can move workspace folders to USB safely
What is the process for transferring workspace folders to a drive? I get launch errors constantly if I try to load a project from a USB, whether I copy the entire folder or use an exported zip and import it.
@CabooseNomerson: Check if all your folders are here, and also if your folder path don't contain anything non-supported, or if it's not too long.
As I recently switched to Windows 10, I constantly get errors with folders being buried to deep ("too long folder path" it says), and sometimes I also get errors when something is in directory labeled in my national language (so computer switches all "ś","ć","ź" and all that stuff into unreadable symbols and can't read for some applications).
I hope that helps somehow, and if not, then I hope someone answers you better.
Wow this helped a lot! I no longer have to worry when my pc turns completely black, doesn't turn on for an hour, makes a strange noise, and then turns on :D
(I probably should look into it closer xD)
There does seem to be quite a bit of lag whenever Gradle is doing a task (running the client, saving a mod element, or cleaning stale outputs). Whenever I use the regular directory it doesn't do this :/
It is like that because external drives (especially flashdrives, I didn't find that problem with external hard drives) need more work on saving/loading stuff I guess. I had similar problem when playing Morrowind from flashdrive, saving the game was taking like whole minute of time. There can also be the way that you have old USB port, as USB 3.0 is saving a lot faster than its old counterpart.
If I had to recommend you something, you can use your workspace on PC, but after each session you can copy whole folder on flashdrive. That way you will not lose much - if ever - yet you will have much faster saving process.
