I can't activate my main account

I made an account a while ago but could not activate it because by the time I had recieved the activation email, I had left. I tried using the link but it didn't work. Just yesterday, I tried to activate my account again. I clicked on the old link that brought me to a page where I put in my username and completed the captcha. I was then greeted by the message "An email was sent to your email address to reset your password". That wasn't what I wanted to do so I did it again and was greeted by the same message. I tried again and again but to no avail. No email was even sent to my address. Even this morning when I went to check my inbox I had not recieved a single email. Please help.
