Hello,
I use Mcreator 2020.2 (because otherwise there is no 1.12.2) and I wanted to put a custom java model, but when I want to import into mcreator, it tells me that the file name is wrong and that it Do not put spaces, numbers or ascii characters. while my file has none of that, if it helps i'm using blockbench and i did my model as a modded entity. and also the file name and gabmodel so there is no problem normally.
Help me 
Check the export version and model indentifier in blockbench at "file" > "project" and see if you have exported it in versions not meant for 1.12, if so, choose the "forge 1.7 - 1.13" and if you dont have a model identifier name, make one.
Other then that it could problably be incombatability issues where older versions of Mcreator is not supported. Hope this helps
