How to install Minecraft Bedrock Edition Add-Ons on Xbox

On this page, we will learn how to install Minecraft Bedrock Edition Add-Ons that you have made with MCreator on Xbox devices First, you need to export your Add-On from MCreator into mcaddon file.

Installing add-ons on PC is as simple as clicking on the exported .mcaddon, but on Xbox, it is a bit more tricky. Here we present some options on how to do it.

Direct file installation by downloading the mcaddon file

The most simple solution is to upload your Minecraft mcaddon file on the upload service (eg. Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) to download it to Xbox. You may need to put the mcaddon file into zip archive in order to be able to download it.

You may need to install Addons Manager and File Downloader on your Xbox. To browse the files, you may need My Files Explorer too.

Open the File Downloader app, go to Download From Link, and then go to Xbox One Smartglass on the computer. Paste the direct download link, and name the file in the bottom input bar. After it is downloaded, open the zip file if you have compressed the file and copy the mcaddon file into some other directory on your Xbox. After that, click on the mcaddon file and import will start.

The pre-requirement is of course to have Minecraft Bedrock Edition installed on your Xbox.

Using realms

If you have an active subscription for Minecraft Realms, you can create a new realm on your PC with Bedrock Edition installed. When editing the settings of the realm, enable the add-on there. To install the add-on into PC Bedrock Edition, just double-click the addon file. Then join your Realm from the Xbox and the add-on will be transferred and installed for you.

Marketplace

The last option may not be feasible for everyone, since it requires setting up a Minecraft Bedrock Edition marketplace account.

If you have a marketplace publisher account, you can upload the addon there and then install it on Xbox directly by using the marketplace functionality in the game.

Experimental features

When installing custom add-ons, make sure to enable experimental features for them to load:

  • Tap Game under Edit Settings
  • Scroll down to Experiments
    • Turn on Holiday Creator Features
    • Turn on Creation of Custom Biomes
    • Turn on Additional Modding Capabilities
    • Turn on Enable GameTest Framework
