Any help available with "Taming"?

Hi, I know a lot of people have asked this in the past, but because this would be such an amazing addition to my mod, I have to ask. 

Is there a way to make a mob "Tameable"? 

I have a specific item (Forbidden Fruit) which upon feeding said mob (Tortured Soul) would make him your "Companion" Following you around, and attacking other mobs (Or even better, act as a "healer" Healing the player as long as he is near, by for instance giving the player potion of regeneration effect or similiar) 

Any help would be much aprriciated :)
