get the block ID/save block as variable

Hello.

I want to create a tool that can save a block with a right click and replace a block with this saved block trough a left click.

My problem is that I don't know how to save blocks (in variables), get the block ID or something similiar.

Is there a possibility or can you add a function to make this possible?
