Ideas needed for my mod "myths and legends"

Hey, im currently working on a mod called "myths and legends". If you have any ideas what i could add, please tell me. They don't have to be mythical or something, but I won't add any Tech-Stuff. Thanks! :)

Hmmm, myths and legends, huh…

Hmmm, myths and legends, huh? That's a fun theme. :D

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but here are some of my favorite mythical creatures and concepts:

  • The nuckelavee. A truly disturbing skinless cyclops centaur-thing from Scotland. I think I first learned about it from Scribblenauts, LOL. It can't cross fresh water, but that's apparently less due to fairy-logic and more because it's a saltwater creature.
  • Pixies are actually different from fairies, are specific to Cornwall in England, and used to be at war with the fairies! Seriously, there's all this weird folklore about them. Like that they weren't as hostile as the fairies, but still ran away when the first church bell in the area rang. It's actually really cool stuff. :D (Although British folklore is also ridiculously morbid for reasons I still can't figure out. See the above creature.)
  • I read a book of Slavic fairy tales once, and they had several recurring motifs that I assume were (mostly) holdovers from an earlier mythology:
    • a mountain with a glass peak. There's one story where a little girl gets thrown out in the snow and finds twelve men sitting around a campfire at the top, and they magically give her all these out-of-season plants to solve her problems. Because they're actually the twelve months of the year. :D
    • "the horse with the golden mane" is a magical steed who talks (and brags) and always enables the hero to save the day.
    • some kind of underground metal kingdom where even the food is made of metal. It seems to be a place where princes and princesses get held captive more often than not.
    • Baba Yaga, a witch who can be either a wise old granny or a hideous cannibal monster depending on the story, but always seems to live deep in the woods in a house with chicken feet.
  • Orichalcum actually means "mountain copper", I think? It was mentioned in several ancient Greek sources as high-quality stuff, but we're not sure what it was or even if it was real. ...But it's what Atlantis was supposed to be made out of. :D (I'm thinking of using orichalcum for my own mod eventually, but probably for tech stuff. Greek machinery was actually really sophisticated...)
  • There's a kind of scorpion-centaur called an aqrabuamelu in Sumerian and I think maybe other Mesopotamian mythologies? Basically they're huge and terrifying and then they get scared when they see Gilgamesh.
  • Everybody thinks Atlas is carrying the earth on his shoulders, but it's actually supposed to be "the celestial sphere". I thought that was pretty cool.
  • Fish-knights were popular in some Medieval stories. There's a 16th-century-ish novel called The Knight of the Parrot which is about (I kid you not) King Arthur going on adventures with a sarcastic parrot sidekick, and at one point he has to fight this giant solid-black knight on a giant solid-black horse. The knight's shield BLEEDS during the fight. When he can finally take a closer look, Arthur discovers that the now-dead knight, horse, and weaponry are actually all parts of one fishy, scaly organism. It's pretty awesome. I should mention that other stories portray fish-knights as painfully noble and honorable.
  • The Kusanagi, AKA the grass-cutting sword, is part of Japan's imperial regalia and is used in a ceremony whenever an emperor ascends the throne. The other items are a mirror and a magatama bead. They're surrounded by various romantic legends, starting with some pretty standard ancient-world propaganda about the emperor being descended from a sun deity, and continuing into the modern day... but nobody's sure if they actually exist. They're only ever brought out in boxes!
  • For some reason I have a soft spot for basilisks/cockatrices. Whoever came up with "chicken dragon" really deserves a prize, especially since they apparently weren't joking. ^_^
  • There's also a giant man-eating snail-serpent called the Carcolh that lives under a specific village in France. It's my favorite. C:

You're welcome! I'm glad they gave you some food for thought. I didn't actually realize how many myths I had rattling around in my brain until I spat out that ridiculously-long list. XD

And you don't really have to give me credit, since it's all just stuff I found, but I do appreciate it. Thank you! 6w6

Add a couple of new biomes eg. Abandoned Dwarven Fortress, FeyWild and others. I would add more potions that possibly set people on fire or splash them with acid

How about this black serpant I made up called "cahberina" pornonced (cab-ber-eena) is a giant snake that faces upward with tentacales with sword blades on the end of each one and claws on its arms and has 4 eyes, 2 with white eyes and 2 with red eyes and has red (or white, you choose, I chose red) spikes on its back with sharp teeth!

YESSSSSS I love Norse mythology (or at least its awesome cosmology)! XD For some reason my brain is going "add Yggdrasil saplings", but I have no idea what you'd do with them, LOL.

...Maybe they would spawn portals. O_o

The Four Horsemen of the…
Wed, 02/19/2020 - 00:13

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:

Death, a skeleton in a black cloak riding a skeletal horse and carrying a huge scythe.

Famine, a skinny, fleshy, monster riding a tired, haggard horse.

Pestilence, a bloated green zombie thing riding an equally bloated horse.

War, an angry red guy riding an angry red horse and carrying an angry red sword.

Hope this helps :3
