Check the transparency box, select a transparency type, set light opacity to 0.

Whenever i try to make a transparent block, the side connected to an other block gets dark.

I know this happens to me so I just use the solid version when making leaves
Make sure to set proper light opacity value and select proper transparency type.

I have a similar issue with stairs and slabs with transparent texture , where the top of the block underneath becomes invisible, and you can see the skybox. The Light opacity on the blocks are all set to 0, but I can't change the light opacity of slabs and stairs. I'm guessing it's a current limitation.
