Why I can't play with external mods on MCreator test environment?

Some versions back, this actually was possible by simply placing the mods you wanted on the mods folder inside of run, however, some versions ago I started to see that any mod I put there crashes, no matter if the mod actually works fine on normal Minecraft and even with my mod.

I checked iirc: Patchouli, Curios API, JEI, Optifine, JourneyMap, Nature's Compass, Wawla & Hwyla (The main one, Idk which one was)

Its this still possible with new versions or anyway to make it don't crash?

There are 2 ways to use external mods now, I don't know what changed but you can't just put mods in your mod folder.
You basically need a debofescated version of the mod. It can be done by having this version or modifying the build.gradle file to 'download' the debofescated version each time you run your client.
