New to Mcreator thought I'd share my thoughts on it.

Like the title said I'm new to Mcreator and have been using it for less than a week. I've already got my first mod started and it's working relatively well. However something I noticed is while you can make a lot of stuff without knowing how to code in java more complex things like adding in procedures will definitely benefit from some java knowledge. Also most of the tutorials on Youtube don't explain anything. All they seem to do is say do this this and this to get it to work but don't explain what or why it works making very poor tutorials in my opinion. I'm curious what everyone else has to say. Also have any of you tried to learn java and if so what did you use?

You can't do something without investing some time into it, be it modding with MCreator or Java.

I don't know if you have seen this playlist yet, but I suggest you check our tutorials collection playlist on our YouTube channel which contains many examples and tutorials that can help you get started with MCreator: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAeL-oIFIEngE6jRgFYeFMfuj8WQsO3Ei

Those are the tutorials I thought were kinda awful. they don't really explain why things work. I have been watching them and they don't really help much. There better then nothing though so there is that

I have to agree. when I started a year ago I skipped the tutorials on the pylo channel and those I did watch didn't give me nearly enough information. The only tutorials I did watch were from NorthwestTreesGaming and even those only covered parts of what I needed to know.

Honestly, I know it's way too late for this but documentation would be nice for those who are just starting out or just need a refresher on how to use mcreator.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I'm doing good on my own too. Im currently trying to figure out how to add in a custom weapon I want to add a staff to the game. It's fun Ive already added a lot  I'm sure there will be a lot more in the future. I want to add a new weapon a staff but I'll need to do some custom stuff I'm not used to. I think i'll be able to run everything through procedure. Time will tell.this is my workspace to prove Ive added a lot.

I wouldn't call it awful, but it I understand where you're coming from. Please understand though: Just because you don't need to program doesn't mean you don't need to think. Do you know what one of the main things about programming are? It's logic. Procedures make understanding the logic and using it a million times easier than it does in programming. The only difference between programming and the procedures are the fact that procedures are easier to understand with a first glance. Although they have less functionality then pure programming, I think it's one of the smartest things about MCreator. But like I mentioned before - you need logic to actually be able to make the complex things, as that's always going to be a requirement. There's only how much MCreator can simplify the logic, and I think it's fantastic so far.

It's true, they don't really go into depth about the reasoning, cause if they did the tutorial would much longer and I don't think they wanted that. I would try to make tutorials of my own, but I'm not sure if anyone would want that or if they'll be exactly what you want and need.

Personally, I always liked figuring things out myself. I always tried to solve the problems on my own since I knew if I were able to it would improve myself. Of course somethings I found no solution for, and had to talk to the forums to try and get some kind of answer. I skipped the tutorials as well as honestly they felt so specific for the stuff I wanted to make that they didn't even really help in most regards. They maybe gave me, a few random tips or suggestions that I use now. I think this program itself gives a lot of freedom and limitations that I have at least met only ever came down to a few entity and projectile specific things along with animations and ease of use stuff. You can make things you wouldn't expect to be able to do but some of them are really clunky and you feel yourself feel a bit bad everytime you have to forcefully shove a repeat entity or item for specific things you couldnt do with 1 item/entity. Maybe Im just not experienced enough but thats the only annoying thing I have encountered within MCreator so far.
