Another aesthetic-aimed question (this time on wood)

Sorry for bothering you all with my recent posts, especially as it's second "technical" topic for the same mod (but different issue and wanted to not have 0 answers, as everyone would think "oh this problem was solved, people already discussing", while I say about different thing).

My mod is trying to convey steampunk reality into Minecraft, so I thought there's nice opportunity to add more wood variations, making up details on airships. I thought about chiseled wood blocks (as well as wood slabs, stairs and that stuff). And here's my question(s):

1. Is it better to have the same chiseled pattern on stripped and non-stripped version of wood? Or "the more patterns, the better"?

2. (this is non-obligatory question, I saw it's already answered, but still not sure about that) Can I use official wood texture to make part of my blocks? It's meant to be variation of already existing blocks, I don't wanna reinvent the wheel.

I personally believe that it's better to make variations of chiseled patterns. I don't know if it's just me but I like to see unique & distinguishable designs for blocks instead of repeating the same pattern over again. plus I think that the bark of a log can affect the chiseled pattern.

I think you could use the official textures if you wanted, as long as you DON'T use them for commercial purposes. but I'm not a hundred percent sure about that.

and yeah, that's all I want to say. I wish you success!

Thanks for the answer, Sajevius, though that topic is a bit outdated, haha.
Still I'm really glad for your opinion. Indeed what you mentioned as a problem - bark of log affecting pattern (in case of visibility) - is true; I really like some of chiseled textures I used for both versions, but with other woods (jungle especially, it has so chaotic bark texture..) I'm not into so much.

Because, as you could guess, I choose to have the same pattern on both - thought someone would like to have the same texture on darker and lighter variation. But after implementing that, I'm still not sure, and I just wait for feedback, I guess.

So, if you like, you can see and rate them if you want, all chiseled textures are on third photo of my mod. Stripped dark oak chiseled texture is also heavily used on second photo (by the way, it became my favourite texture of them all ^^)
