Any way to make a vanilla item edible?

Currently trying to make vanilla Netherwart edible without needing to cook it or do anything else to turn it into a modded item. The only thing i can think of doing is using the "add food" option to add the effects and nutrition i want, but that doesn't let me pick a vanilla item to become edible. And my procedure experiance is very slim, if procedures would even help me here.

Any advice on how to make this happen? is it even possible?
