How to change the crosshair ?

Hello,

I have no knowledge and I want to start modifying minecraft.

I would like to change the crosshairs to show a dot and an arrow depending on the direction of the mouse.

I think I need to use the overlay but how do I disable the basic crosshair to put my own?

Do you have any idea how I could do this? If you know any documentation/tutorial please?
