Need help with custom armor model.

I'm trying to make a custom model where its a Gauntlet. It uses the chestplate armor slot. 

I've made the model but when I tried putting it into my mod the model is just one big broken box. I haven't read much on the boundaries on modelling and stuff and I need help with this.

Help pls...?
