Exporting to game

I'm new to MCreator, I've got the latest version of it and of Minecraft. I'm confused about exporting a mod to the game. When I select the only option that says "export" it saves it as a .jar file and it doesn't import into the Game like my other mods do when I double click on them after downloading. Please help
