Creating Custom Dimensions

When i create a portal to another dimension,i cant change the particle setting.When i build my dimension,if i go into survival mode it sends me deep underground,where it suffocates me, and when i return to the overworld it sends me up in the air to fall 2 my death..

Can anyone please help :(
