[Solved] Error Downloading New Version
Sun, 04/19/2026 - 21:31 (edited)

I cannot download MCreator's newest version. I tried updating from the official page on Windows 11 with the exe installer. I tried using Administrator mode, pressing ignore 20 times, etc.. Now, my MCreator app is broken and I cannot open it.

Anybody's help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is it step by step …

Here is it step by step (sorry that I took forever to respond, you were really quick):
1. I download the installer from MCreator.net.

2. I run it

3. I click yes: I want to uninstall previous version.

4. It says welcome to the MCreator Uninstallation. I click next (yes I want to keep settings, recent workspaces lists, etc.).

5. It finishes and pops up the welcome to the new version setup. I click next, I agree to the License Agreement.

6. I click install. It returns the following message for about 30 different files:

Error opening file for writing:

C:\Program Files\Mcreator\[FILE NAME]

Click abort to stop the installation,

Retry to try again, or

Ignore to skip this file.

I've tried pressing every option, here is what each does:

Retry: returns the same error.

Abort: stops the installation

Ignore: continues to next file.

I spammed the ignore button and now my entire MCreator is not working. I have tried everything I can think of to make it work again: installing an older version, running mcreator.exe without a shortcut and with administrator, deleting most mcreator files and retrying to install it, etc.. Please help me. I think I am having exactly the same problem with Modrinth (I think) so I switched to a different 3rd party loader. It was also while downloading a new version. I contacted their support team and they had no idea.

Alright I fixed it, to…

Alright I fixed it, to anyone in the future that needs help, i tried deleting the mcreator file with all the jdk stuff and plugins in it too. In order to do that I realized that there was a java process in the background(using the task manager) and ended it. After that I used the mcreator installer/deinstaller and It worked again.

I don't know which of these two things(ending the java task or the file deleting) fixed it. But good luck dudes!
