Disappearing Gui Storage

I've been trying to make a GUI of an inventory that's opened with a keybind and can store items; much like the vanilla inventory, however if i place an item inside and close it, that item disappears (i have item dropping disabled on all slots) i've looked through many forum posts and even a couple of reddit ones but none have a solution that works. i'm using the most recent version (2026.1) and i'm struggling to find a good fix for it.

A gui must be bound to an external source in order to save itself. Ie a block or item. Because it is off of a keybind it is not bound, so everything within will not be saved. Your options are to use a block/item and change how you use your feature. Or you can manually save, within each player, what is in each slot on gui closed and then add the items back into the slots on gui opened again.
