Topic category: Help with Minecraft modding (Java Edition)
im attempting to make a space mod with planets and hyperspace to travel far distances and customizable spaceships and weapons and space stations but there's not many tutorials for dimensions and stuff on youtube which is up to date.
-
Planets
i want a space dimension to have huge planets compared to the player which when flown close to teleports you to what i think the best way for planets is a new dimension
i want huge canyons on sand planets and ice spires on ice planets
-
Spaceships
i want a spaceship builder with preset parts that can be placed onto the spaceship in some sort of GUI then it become a entity for flying into space if possible i want to be able to walk around on the spaceship and have cargo storage and weapons i also want some sort of hyperdrive system that sends you into a tube of light and makes travelling to planets faster Mabey you set coords to a specific planet on a hollow table and it teleports you there after some sort of animation like in star wars
-
Space Stations
i want some sort of space station in space that you can spawn from some GUI for money and you can design it and then it takes you to another dimension for the inside Mabey some shops that generate money from npcs
Overall im new to mcreator and modding in general so i would appreciate anyone's suggestions since this project is quite ambitious for a beginner
Definitely possible. In terms of your space dimension you simply create an air dimension. Alter the settings as you like and try the sky renderer plugin for better sky.
For the planets you make structures. If you want each planet to be unique, eg the solar system. Use features and place the structures only at set coordinates. If the structures are quite large then you will have to split them up and place them separately so they combine together. You can use worldedit within mcreator by putting the mod into the mod folder within the mcreator workspace run folder.
For each planets dimension that gets a lot harder. To custom code dimensions, eg not overworld, nether or end gen, you will need to code it from scratch. If you have math knowledge you may be able to do that intuitively. If not in general you have two choices, either use vanilla worldgen along with a lot of features in order to reshape the landscape of the dimension through custom shapes and structures. The other option is to research into coding worldgen and or look at other mods code for worldgen if they have similar results you are looking for and reference it.
The spaceship would be an entity. Either make a model for every possible combination of parts, then use separate entities for each combination or use models and model layers and use entity data/nbt. Or use one model which is the combination of every part at the same time which can be confusing and cause problems but you can use simply texture model layers to get all the options. Would depend on how many options as too many would cause issues on one entity.
Space station would just be a jigsaw structure search up how to do them if you don’t know how. You can also spawn minecraft vanilla jigsaw structures using /place to reference how the base game makes the different pieces/rooms. You could also use a space station entity which takes you to a space station dimension which is just a huge structure spawned using features. Again for big structures use multiple pieces and place them at coords so that they combine into one.
