Making an animated overlay on MCreator 2026.1
Wed, 06/03/2026 - 16:06 (edited)

I found a Life is Strange mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 and I wanted to update it to a newer version of Minecraft I've been getting through creating the mod but one of the thing has been giving me issues it's an animated Butterfly that's flapping it's wings I've attached a video of the original mod if someone could give me a hand I need the code and overlay I'm quite new to the whole MCreator thing so I'll need extra help https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Y6BKQsMSVrn_jiszzw6dY5b1HD7erdg2?usp=drive_link

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Animated textures do not work with overlay, or at least gui to my knowledge. You can make an animation using a sprite though

From my experience it didn’t work very well within a gui, may work better on an overlay

You use each sprite to be each frame of the animation, use an integer variable, have it count up as the effect is active, the display condition is the same as the active effect condition, then the sprite index number changes with the counting, every 2 ticks should make it animate like normal

Otherwise you could make an animated particle which appears right in front of the player and moves with the player camera using look x y z, same conditions as before, but I don’t know the exact procedure to make a particle or entity move with your crosshair
