custom crafting table recepies

I had problems with the custom crafting table recipes. I made the procedure based on a video and it worked, then I made the same one, but I changed one of its components, and I found that none of them worked. Why is that? Apart from this, I made another recipe, for completely different slots, and it also worked, but when I put them together, none of them worked again.
