Is there a way to check for multiple items on an armor slot?

To make it simple, I have multiple colors of the same item and would like to use the same procedure for each of them, so I'm wondering if there's something I can do with tags or NBT data where I could give each of the items the same data and detect that? Sorry if the explanation is poor but if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated!
