How can I make a set of armour which slows down the user more as they put on more pieces without using slowness?

For Forge 1.20.1 on MCreator 2023.3. I want to make a heavy variant of iron armour so that each piece slows you down more and more, but giving the slowness effect makes the wearer too slow
