I like the regular Minecraft armor, but when it comes to make a mod for Minecraft armor I'd like to be able to design and make new armor, not just color Diamond or Iron armor. because if I was just going to color armor and not design it, well then i'd just make a resource pack.
I'm not sure but you can probably import textures and models in mcreator and for your models you can use techne or tabula or blender and there are many others.
