Make an item place a block by another block.

Hello! I'm making a mod, but I don't want to spoiler it. I'd like to make a button, and I use the official JSONs from the JAR of Minecraft 1.14.4, including the inventory model. (and yes, I'm using the 2019.5 EAP Snapshot) I'd like to know is it possible to make an item place a block by another block? I don't want to make it only by the top, and I want it to be placeble by all the sides of the block: Front, Back, Left, Right, Up and Down? I'd want the block to rotate to the side, depending on the face you placed the button, not just the block just "float in air", so It would behave like placing a normal button.
