I'm not that great at creating item textures yet so to help and practice I find a sample one from the net (as a png file) and download them.
I can import them all day long and use it's current look... but what I want to do is "create my own" by using the downloaded png as a template.. However.
I can not figure out how to do that. I click import item texture and select the file and give it a name... but when I click on generate from template it's not in there nor does it show up on the editing grid...
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I think you need to download 1.9.1 again because they patched the texture template importer.
and btw here is a site with all minecraft textures and filters: https://minecraft.novaskin.me/resourcepacks
Make sure to have permission for the textures you use.
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling MCreator 1.9.1 (I actually just started using it yesterday) but I still can not edit any png textures that I download from external sites. I have to use it as is or make from scratch. Am I missing something? I spent a few hours trying to figure this out yesterday. Any videos showing how to do this that you all know of?
Also. Thank you for the site with all those wonderful textures :)
All this is for private use for learning and not being distributed to any public servers. Wouldn't that be fine? If I was to actually want to go public with any mods, I'd create my own textures :D
You download the textures, make sure there is only lowercase letters and underlines in the names, and you just drag it in mcreator
If you want to edit textures from the net then you could open up the textures in any image editor, change as you wish and then load into MCreator.
If I use an online texture, I will download, edit in photoshop or paint etc and then import into MCreator. Make sure any texture you use is a perfect square I.e. 200x200 pixels as any slight different will cause the purple/black checkerboard issue. Also make sure you name the file in lowercase.

Thank you all! I think I am finally getting it! :)
Now trying to figure out them darn procedures Lolz...
I am having this same issue and I also cannot figure out how to edit an imported texture from a .png file. I SWEAR the first time I did this the png image showed up in the editor. I know this because it was not 16 x 16 and I was trying to figure out if that would even work. Ever since then I cannot get a png image to show up in the editor. I understand I could use an external 3rd party image editing software, but there MUST be a way to edit it in Mcreator no??
